FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Can tile/pavers be installed on sand?
It is not recommended to install Sunshine Pavers or AmeriCraft II Tile in a sand bed. FBC recommends that the pavers or tile be installed in accord with the TILE COUNCIL OF AMERICA’s handbook for ceramic tile installation.

2. Are the pavers/tile freeze and frost resistant?
FBC products have been tested for freeze thaw cycles. FBC products meet or exceed all test requirements. FBC recommends that W-500 (Sunset Marble) and W-700 (Desert Marble) SUNSHINE PAVERS be installed in interior applications in extreme freeze thaw climates.

3. Can SUNSHINE PAVERS be used for interior installations?
Yes, SUNSHINE PAVERS are an excellent choice for both interior and exterior applications. The paver’s rustic characteristics add dimension to many of today’s popular decors.

4. How are pavers/tile installed?
Pavers and quarry tile are installed in the same manner as ceramic tile. The material is installed using thin set and grout. An application of penetrating sealer is recommended prior to grouting. The sealer acts as a grout release to facilitate easier cleanup.

5. Can 1/2" pavers be used on driveways?
The standard size (1/2") pavers are suitable for residential driveways (even condos). The pavers/tile are fired at very high temperatures making them very strong. When properly installed the pavers/tile will stand up against vehicular traffic.

6. My exterior pavers are stained by the oak trees in my yard. How do I remove the stains without hurting the pavers or tile?
Many common stains or spills can be removed through the use of common household chemicals. Household bleach is effective on many types of stains. Ammonia is also useful for some stains. Please be careful not to mix the bleach with ammonia.

7. If I use the pavers/tile on my pool deck, will the deck be too hot to walk on?
Like any surface exposed to direct sunlight the pavers/tile will absorb some of the heat. The lighter colors will absorb less than the darker colored tiles. The pavers and tile do not get any warmer than other decking materials such as river rock or plain concrete.

8. How do I keep the grout from sticking to the small pits and pores of the SUNSHINE PAVERS?
When installing the pavers it is recommended that an application of penetrating sealer be applied to the pavers prior to grouting. The sealer will act as a grout release. The sealer will prevent most but not all of the grout from sticking to the face of the tile. It is recommended to use a grout similar in color to the pavers.

9. How often do I need to reseal the pavers or tile?
After the pavers/tile have been sealed during installation and again after clean up the pavers/tile will need to be resealed from time to time based on the traffic and if the pavers/tile are used as an interior installation or an exterior installation. Generally the pavers/ tile will need to be resealed every 12 to 24 months.
